Logged a call with VMware:It looks like importing and exporting your custom dashboards is only method for backing up dashboards.

I had the same issue. I have restored both the vm's from the snapshot and everything got in place including the custom dashboards. The only thin i have to do is to update the vcops by using the update option in admin page. Technically speaking there is no update. If you press update it will refresh all the vcenter registrations and license details.
