Alert notifications sent to a single department

I have alert notifications setup for me and my team and they are working great.  We get notified on All Objects, types, adaptors etc.

I want to leave this in place for us but my Applications team needs to have alerts sent to them but only on their VMs and no other department.   I have the VMs designated with vSphere Tags and created a custom group based on this.

How can I get their VMs send alerts to them?

Select object type and then the type you assigned your custom group. And if you don't know the type go to environment - custom group - select your custom group - edit - see what you've picked as the "group type".

I think this is what you are looking for:

I'm creating a new notification. I've set the criteria on "object". Now I'm able to search and select my custom group. The alerts are of the VMs in that custom group, so I set the relationship to Children and type on "Virtual Machine".

As the "Alert Scope" I set the category on alert definitions, because that's the default alerting method in vROps. Next I select all the alert definitions that should send a notification and drag and drop them in this list.

The other tabs are is self-explanatory.

I don't know which version you are using, but here is the documentation for version 8.12:

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Aria-Operations/8.12/Configuring-Operations/GUID-DDBA0534-CD40-4AF...

Thanks for the link KabirAli,   I am using Operations Cloud so I should be on 8.2 I think is the latest.   Either way the documentation looks correct.    However,  I am unable to find my custom group or how to setup a custom group.    I am looking at this page of the documentation.

  https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Aria-Operations/8.12/Configuring-Operations/GUID-86831697-53E3-4B5...

I think I want to be in step 3. Define Criteria,  there is a dropdown under Criteria and I can not find how to set this up for my custom group.

Any directions you give are very appreciated.

The group type in my Custom Group is "Department" I have left the policy blank and my understanding is this will default to the default policy.

When I go to the Object type I do not see Department.  (see attached screenshot)

It's under container. You can always start typing, vROps will auto populate the field

Thanks I found it.   The Notification says "The alert triggers on ANY of the selected object types:"  What if I have 2 custom groups with the same object type?     In my case I do not but what if I do?  Is there a way to only select the custom group?

Thanks again for ALL of your help.

I thought this was working but under further review setting this up using the Object Type is not sending any notifications.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks again for all the help

What is the end situation you want to achieve? Which alert(s) have you enabled for the custom group?

You say whicn alerts did you enable.  I did not enable or disable any.    I have an existing notification for Administrators and all alerts get sent to this group.

The original group under criteria is for aLL Objects.   I have cloned this and setup the criteria for department like you suggested.

Final goal is to have any alerts for the VMs in a custom group [EQR APPOPs} will send alerts to the department email address.

You can enable alerts and set notifications for those alerts. Here is a link on how to setup notifications:

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Aria-Operations/8.12/Configuring-Operations/GUID-DDBA0534-CD40-4AF...

If you have specific VMs for specific departments, you will need to define those one by one.

You said "If you have specific VMs for specific departments, you will need to define those one by one."

I have theses  specific VMs in a custom group.  Can I setup the notifications to this group?
