Reset vmware password on Orchestrator Appliance

I recently joined a company and am attempting to clean up their virtual environment. They have an Orchestrator appliance in the environment, but no one seems to have documented configuration on it. I have, after much searching, located the root password. I do not, however, have the vmware password. I know that on a Windows box, I can change the password.properties file back to the default. However, I am unsure how to do this on an appliance. I am getting in through SSH; is there a way to update a single line in a file through the terminal session?

I had been following the KB mentioned, but as I am on version 6.0 I had been using the SHA512WithSalt line in my passwd.properties file. Just for grins I used the line the KB states is for versions 4.x and 5.1.x, and that worked. Not sure why the older one worked, but the issue is resolved. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I had seen that document, was more asking the vi commands for editing the text file, but I found those. Unfortunately, even after following the instructions in that KB, and confirming that the password now matches what that KB states for 5.5, I still get an invalid username/password error on login (yes, I did reboot the appliance). Unsure what else to try.

Now, rather than invalid username/password I get: User/password mismatch or account temporarily blocked after too many unsuccessful attempts

Verify that the text you copied is in a single line (if you just copied it from KB it can occupy 2 lines)

Also, verify that the editor you used to modify the file content didn't change the file ownership/access rights; its owner/group should be vco/vco

Also check with different browser ie. with Chrome or IE
