IaaS Infrastructure EndPoint / Fabric Group validation

I am in the process of setting the endpoints for vCenter.

I am not clear on how to figure out whether or not they are working correctly.

Specifically I do not understand how to populate the Compute Resource section of the Fabric Group.  It is currently blank and I do not see any drop downs or other way to select a compute group.

Am I supposed to define the compute group elsewhere?

I have already created an Endpoint.  (See attached image).  The endpoint is showing "There is no data to display."  Could this be because I have not entered my license key yet?  If it is not a license issue, where can I find the logs to help me troubleshoot why it is not returning data?

I found this error in the log ... This exception was caught: The attached endpoint 'ncidivc01.ncididev.local' cannot be found.   That is the end point name that I entered.  According to the documentation, the log is supposed to show the expected endpoint name.  What gives?

If you do not know the endpoint name provided to the vSphere agent, you can create the endpoint with a temporary name and then check Infrastructure > Monitoring > Log to determine the expected name.

For example, if the endpoint name provided to the agent is vCenter, the following message displays in the log:

This exception was caught: The attached endpoint 'vCenter' cannot be found.

You can then edit the endpoint to update the name.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Your problem is likely due to the fact that the Endpoint "label" needs to match the installed agent "label", and doesn't necessarily indicate the fqdn of your vCenter.

So if the agent name was "vCenter01" you need to create an Endpoint with the label "vCenter01" - even if the vCenter fqdn is more like vcsa-01a.corp.local

HI David,

Welcome to VMware Communities.

The fields that are shown in your screenshot and the ones you have filled are search boxes. Do you see something called "New Endpoint"?

Thank you for the blog.

The application does not give me the New Endpoint option.

The attached screenshot shows what I see in the application.  As you can see, the only option there is Columns.

I logged in with an account that has been given the IaaS Administrator role for the default tenant.  Am I supposed to assign it permissions somewhere else?

If you are not seeing the "New Endpoint" field, it has to do with your license.

What license are you using?

You have to initially apply license in the Administration page. Have you done that bit?

That explains it.  I am still waiting for a valid license from our core IT group.

I will wait until I have the license and then try again.

Yes, once you update the license all the fields will show up according to the license you possess.

I was able to install the license but the Infrastructure > Monitoring > Log is still showing errors.  (Values in Parenthesis) are obscured.  The real values are accurate and registered in DNS

Where do I troubleshoot these errors?  I do not know if they are related to the Agent Proxy configuration on the IaaS Windows 2008 R2 server, or if they are related to the Endpoint configuration within the app.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Grant.  I finally figured it after reading the same thing half a dozen times in various blog posts.  I am not sure why it took my brain so long to register what was being said.
