Hi,
I have downloaded "VMware ESX Server 3i U4 Installable Refresh"(250mb iso image) from Vmware site. But when i boot in from the CD itthe installation takes me through licence agreement and then throws an error mentioned below:-
"The installation operation has encountered a fatal error:
Unable to find a supported device to write the Vmware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 image to.
The following information will assist the Vmware support team
with your problem please record this information before proceeding.
Manufacture: System Manufacture
Model: System product Name
Service for: System Serial Number
Bios No:0903"
then the installation asks to press enter to reboot and the process continues.
I would like to know if it is because of my system configurations? My System Details are:
CPU Type:- DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 1900 MHz (9.5 x 200) 3600+

What kind of disk controller? Your MB is not on the whitelist as confirmed at the moment: http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3.5/Whiteboxes_SATA_Controllers_for_ESX_3.5_3i.htm#MB
by the way i moved it to the esxi 3.5 sub forum...

You might want to add the specific type of storage controller. If you are looking to install it to the IDE disk;

HI Dave,
Yes, i checked it before putting my post there n device ID does't machch. so there is no scope of installing ESXi 3.5 or any version of ESXi on my machine?
Try this
1) run the command /sbin/vmkload_mod /mod/sata_nv.o
2) then run lspci -p
Check if the the 03f6 device is listed with the module of sata_nv. If it is, then the driver is working with your device and you can use this process to add the device to simple.map - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/customize_oem_tgz.php.
