how do I check the esx version from command line?
vimsh -n -e 'hostsvc/hostsummary' | grep fullName
--Matt
vmware -v
vmware -v - are you using ESX 3i or 3.5?
This is strange, on the console, I type in vmware -v
It shows VMware ESX Server 3.0.2 build-61618
But when I try to add this to an existing 3.0.2 cluster in VC 2.02
It shows as
Version: VMware ESX Server 3.5.0 build-64607
any idea?
Just checked one of my servers
using vmware -v VMware ESX Server 3.5.0 build-82663
same shows in summary from vc, No discrepancies here

The better solution to see the version is : vimsh -n -e 'hostsvc/hostsummary' | grep fullName
vmware -v gives you the the vmkernel version
vimsh -n -e 'hostsvc/hostsummary' gives you the hostd version.
could anybody share guide of vimsh ?
appriciated your help
Hello,
Check out http://www.xtravirt.com for a VIMSH whitepaper. It is the one everyone uses.
