Off of one vm that is already created? We are attempting to QA our customer desktop environment of over 2000 desktops; we want to make 200 vms say 180 vista 20 os x; what would be the best and most efficent approach?
Doing a bit of research it seems that
Use vmkfstools -i to clone disks from already installed VM (Step 1). vmkfstools -i /vmfs/volumes/datastore/VM/VM.vmdk /vmfs/volumes/datastore/NEWVM/NEWVM.vmdk
is one way and cloning is another.
If anyone has done this before it'll be much appreciated if you could shine some light on this problem.. thanks!
Powershell would be by far the easiest to do this. You might want to look into this script:

I recommend to take a look at VMware View for Windows desktops.
AFAIK OS X is not supported as guest OS for ESX VM.

I agree with Anton. Utilizing VMware View and linked clones you can probably have 200 desktops knocked out in less then 1 hour.
Also, there is not solution for virtualizing MAC OS within VMware that I am award of either.
