I've set vmware tools policy to automatically check and upgrade at poweron. After testing this for a while in a separate cluster I decided to change to this setting for all VMs. During testing the tools were - as expected - upgraded on reboot only. This was on U3/U4. I'm currently upgrading our clusters to U5 with latest fixes (226117) and have noticed that tools on at least three VMs got upgraded without prior reboot nor an Administrator did a manual upgrade. The VMs were vmotioned from an unpatched to a patched ESX Host. Afterwards tools on VM were automatically upgraded from Version 7302 to 7304 and rebooted afterwards. As this happened to production VMs it caused some trouble. I've decided to set the option back to manual upgrade for now. Anyone noticed this behaviour?
