Linked Clones VI Components Compatability

I am trying to deploly a new desktop pool using linked clone.

From the manual it seems simple enough. But when I get to choose hosts and clusters during pool setup my cluster is missing. I have tried both persistent and non-persistent, and I still run in to this problem. I can create pools from templates. It's only with the linked clone that I have issues.

I have skimmed around the net to get a clear answer on compatability.

All of our builds are the LATEST most current builds for VI3. So 3.5 w/ VC 2.5 latest updates (builds).

Is anyone aware of a caveat that needs to be taken care of to get linked clones working? I have followed the docs carefully. I have a machine with snapshot, the vm is turned off, the pool creation wizard sees the vm and the snapshot fine - but just fails on cluster....I am at a loss what could be blocking.

I do NOT have more than 8 hosts in this cluster. It's only 3 hosts.....

And as far as I can tell, View Composer is working fine.....able to see it, connect to it from the connection server.....

This is a version issue. I incorrectly determined that we were running U4 based off what a consultant had advised us....

Run esxupdate -l query on ESX hosts to find detailed information on version.
