Hi , i am new to vmware products . I need help and suggestions on it.
I have one exchange 2007 , Domain Controller and application server in my organisation. I have to make a testing scenario or a virtual scenario where i can make virtual copies of all my servers on daily or weekly bases sceduling. so that its good to have virtual servers at the time of any disaster of physical servers .Also if any new installation or application to try i can use the virtual machines instead of doing it on production servers. I need to also scehduled production servers to regularly backup as a copy of virtual servers.
What vmware products i need to use to fulfill my requirements. Also i need to have some documents on the following products.
I have also planning to purchase a high system to install the vmware products.
If the budget permits build a test scenario that will allow scalability:
2 ESX servers (Look at the HCL you might be able to use existing hardware)
SAN or NAS storage
Virtual Center Server (Could be virtual machine)
VCB server
VMware Converter
Windows licenses, Backup client license
As far as documentaion you can find all you need at
Part of your test lab project you need to
Design Storage, ESX sever, Network, Physical to virtual convertion
There is soo much to this it all depends on the final scope of the business requirements
But see what others have done
Im sure if you do a google search you will find many senarious
Well thats Fine But i need the vmware products applicable for my scenario and the steps o implement it.
Also i need to backup my production servers as virtual servers to avoid disaster
Hmmm...
1.- Read the documentation about the products listed or talk to a VMware sales rep
2.- Locate two servers that you can use, for your test even a single CPU, 4GB, 2 NIC, Single HBA, 80-100 GB LUN will be enough to get you started. Are you planing to use iSCSI? Are you planing to buy what you need for the test? Are you and IBM, HP shop? ... Read the docs its really not complicated.
3.- Build the ESX servers with share store connection, (configure your VLans, LUNs etc )
4.- Build you virtual center virtual machine
5.- Install and configure Converter
6.- Covert the physical systems to virtual
7.- Test using virtual isolated network

No you should use a host from the HCL. See the above link.
