Hi all,
In our vmware farm we have 2 esx3.5 servers (HP BL480 blades) running 25-30 VM's
Yesterday, Host 2 came disconnected, so the VM's of host 2 had to fail over to Host 1.
But we got this error message:+ insufficient resources to satisfy configured failover level for HA.+
How can you calculate if you have enough resources left for HA failover?
Does anyone has some info about this?
Thx a lot!
You need to have sufficient ressources to have any left ESX servers running all VMs from any failed server of the cluster on top of theri own load. There is a pretty good articel on this at:

Two hosts is really not enough for failover. You have two hosts presuamebly configured for one failover.
When one hosts fails, you have one left so that is not enough to satisfy specified failover.
Also HA requirements seem to got lot stricter as ESX 3.5 evolved.

Ok Thx.
Each host has 34gb ram and 8 Intel Xeon Quadcore (2.333GHz) cpu's
Check a settings of your cluster in admission control if is selected "Allow VMs to be powered on even if they violate availability constraints", with this selection enable your cluster do not show this message.
It resolves your problem. all VMS will decrease a performance to maintain all VMs powered.
OK ?
Regards!
here's a great article, if you haven't seen it.
