Good afternoon everyone - here's my problem, I currently have 10 host in a single cluster. I'm running HA & DRS (Partially automaded w/ a conservative threshold) two of my host rebooted last night and when I came in this morning HA had put ALL of the VM's from those two server onto a Single host. I have no idea why they downed VM's didn't span accross the other 8 host. This was the second time happened. So I brought those 2 host back up migated the VM's back over and turned the host off again and the same thing happened.
Is there a setting that I'm missing that tell HA to use all the host? I have no idea where to go from here? I have a call in with VMware but my hope is you guys have some info. Thanks.
Even with all the VM's brought back up on one host was the host fully maxed out? What number of starts is your automation set up on ?

Not fully maxed out - but it was damn close. Had it crashed I would have alot of explaining to do today.
I'm not sure what you mean by " number of starts is your automation set up on "
After looking at the automation level - Partially automated: Virtual machinger will be automatically placed onto hosts at power on and Virtual Center will _suggest migration _recommendations for virtual machines
So I guess if I don't answer the recommendation they stay put. I thought that once VM's hit a 5 start the will migrate no matter what?
Change your automation level and you are set. I have mine set at 4 stars or pretty aggressive and this really works for me.

I guess my big question is - WHY did HA put all the VM's on 1 host?
I set my environment to partially automated with 4 stars, too. It seems worked pretty good...
Sorry number of stars or level the automation is set on?

That is the way it does things and then DRS will migrate to another host to even out the load
