Boot ESX

Hello,

I Have a question about ESX works with boot from SAN, ESX Service Console always boot from first down number LUN available, but how can I change the path for boot, We have30 ESX booting from External Storage, but all boot form same HBA, that HBA failed the last week and all VM crash, we configure fixed multipath for VM but we dont configure multipath for ESX.

Tks

Regards

Well I think you have to set the LUN to boot from on the FC-HBA in the ESX Server. Enter the BIOS of the FC-HBA and set the LUN there to boot from.

To have boot from SAN you must use dedicated LUNs for each ESX (for the system disk).

The VMFS LUNs instead should be shared.

Consider having redundant HBAs? Possibly using something like powerpath to manage multiple routes?

This way, if one fails you can continue to operate normally?

One day I will virtualise myself . . .
