ADD button greyed out trying to add virtual HDD

I am trying ot add a virtual hard drive to one of my VM's, but the ADD button is greyed out. I can add to other VMs just not this one.

Client is win 2k3, with vm tools installed (v 3.5 build 143129)

Hosts have same build 143129 on them

We have removed vm tools and re-installed, but no luck

Thanks,

Glenn

Try right clicking the VM, is the 'upgrade virtual hardware' option available? You may need to upgrade the VM before you can make changes.

thx for the quick reply.. no "upgrade virtual hardware" option viewable. Only install/upgrade vmtools which are already up to date.

The upgrade hardware available in powered off mode I think (not sure) ; Please ignore if you tried while VM power off.

Hi,

how many disks does the VM have right now?

Each virtual SCSI controller could only handle 15 disks, to add an extra disk you must add another SCSI controller which can't be done when the VM is powered on.

Hope this helps a bit.

I haven't tried with the vm powered off..

The current vm only has 1 hard drive now, just trying to add one more...

Glenn,

Are you trying to add the virtual disk with the VM powered on? Try adding a disk wih the VM powered off.

Sorry for the delay, was in a change freeze. I shutdown the server this weekend, and the ADD button was stil greyed out.
