VCDX Program Announcement

Registration for the Toronto VCDX4 defense in May has closed but there are still many people asking for an opportunity to submit infrastructure virtualization designs and defend them in pursuit of VCDX4 certification. Many people have also contacted us about attempting the successor to VCDX4, which we are codenaming, during its pre-release phase, “VCD.next”.

At this time a final decision about offering additional VCDX4 defenses has not been made, but you may lobby for additional defenses, and voice your opinion about where and when they might be held, by pre-registering via this link:

The information gathered through this non-binding survey will be considered very carefully by the VMware Certification Team. So, if you are interested in additional VDCX4 defenses in 2012, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to have your voice heard!

If you’re a VCDX candidate who is trying to decide whether to lobby for additional VCDX4 defenses or wait until the successor to VCDX4 (aka VCD.next) is officially announced, you may find the following advice helpful:

Note that VCDX4 applications can, and often do, include vSphere 5 components. If you have a vSphere 4 or vSphere 5 based Virtual Infrastructure design in hand that satisfies the program requirements and you have achieved the prerequisite certifications for VCDX4, you may want to lobby for additional defenses - and the opportunity to leverage your current investments.

If you have presented a VCDX4 defense, failed to achieve the credential, have carefully considered the feedback received, and now believe you are prepared for another attempt, you may also want to leverage your investment to date and lobby for additional VCDX4 defenses.

If you have a vSphere 5 based design that also includes a fully documented deployment of vCenter Site Recovery Manager, and/or a VMware View-based desktop deployment, and/or a VMware vCloud Director-based Private or Hybrid vCloud Solution, you may be better positioned than others to attempt the VCD.next credential.

If you are already a VCDX, the path to VCD.next will be announced in conjunction with the release of prerequisite certifications. If you have not yet achieved VCDX you may indicate your desire to pursue a VCD.next credential in 2012 by pre-registering via this link.

Yes, although that is part of an internal development roadmap and the information remains confidential at this time.
