eth0: tq error 0x80000000

Hi All,

my system is composed of vcenter server release 4.1.0 build 345046, and 2 server DELL PowerEdge R610 with ESXi 4.1.0.

The virtual machine (version 7) has 4GB of ram, 2 vcpu and OS CentOS 5.6 64bit with version's vmware tools 8.3.7

The network card is vmxnet3 with 1 static IP address (eth0) and 4 static alias (eth0:1, eth0:2, eth0:3, eth0:4).

It works all, but I have an error.

eth0: tq error 0x80000000

Someone knows to say something to me?

Every help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm having this issue too, for a few months to now.

I have similar environment, but have passed by some updates until get there:

VMware 4.1.0 build 260247, upgraded to VMware 4.1.0 build 348481

CentOS 5.5 64bits upgraded to CentOS 5.6 64bits

Upgraded kernel for CentOS, nothing solved the problem.

Dell PowerEdge R610, Dell PowerEdge R710 and a HP Proliant ML 110

Three virtual machines, all them have this same problem.

One of the virtual machines have four virtual interfaces, all in same physical Switch, but with different VMNetworks with different VLANs, just one of the interfaces has this issue, the one that have more traffic.

Somedays I have 50 messages of this in my log per day, somedays have none of them (usualy weekends, when nobody is working).

Sometimes this cause a disconection on my NFS Server, causing some issues. I think that this may cause another disconnection issues, but not sure.

But, I don't had this problem at first, all of them started when I changed the NIC driver (in the begining, I started with E1000 driver).

I solved the problem changing back the driver for virtual NIC. Remove that one with vmxnet3, add another one with E1000 driver, adjust /etc/modprobe.conf, adjust MAC addres, all solved.

I know that this isn't the best scenario, but solved my issues.

same deal here, Dell R610, CentOS 5.7, ESXi 4.1

Kernal errors in /var/log/messages

Oct 26 13:17:01 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:17:07 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:17:13 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:17:17 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:17:19 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:17:34 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:17:41 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:17:46 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:18:17 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000
Oct 26 13:52:34 localhost kernel: eth0: tq error 0x80000000

What is the actual cause of this, and how to workaround? (other than apparently trying a different virtual NIC)

Does VMware staff even look at these threads, btw? Not much activity here in "Technical Details" forum...

Hello,

Did any of you guys find this was fixed in ESXi 4.1 U2 as mentioned in this KB article?

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=2005717&sl...

I'm have ESXi 4.1 U2 (Build 582267), and still see the problem. I'm running CentOS 5.5 VM's on Dell R610s.

Cheers

Nick
