SRM: failing over one data store and failback

I have couple of questions about SRM failover and failback. I have SRM 5.0 with MirrorView SRA.

I have three DataStores (LUNs) being mirrored to another SAN using MirrorView SRA   (DS1,DS2,DS3).

I have three VMs (VM1a,VM1b,VM1c) in one particular data store (DS1).

I have one protection group and one Recovery plan for those three VMs (VM1a,VM1b,VM1c).

I already did test failover several times and it worked fine.

Now I would like to failover VM1a,VM1b,VM1c on DS1 but nothing else on other data stores  DS2,DS3. I would like to let them run for couple of days then fail them back.

Does failing over this ONE recovery plan cause other Data Stores DS2,DS3 to failer over as well.?

How the failback works?

Hi,

If Protection Group based on datastore group which contains only this specific datastore (DS1) and contains only those three VMs and Recovery Plan contains only this particular Protection Group, then no other VMs will be impacted.

Failback and Reprotection are described pretty well in admin guide (pages 16, 71):

Thanks for clarification. All DOCs I have read talked about all or none failover scenarios . The idea of failing over specific datastore(certain VMs) seems to be missed out .

I am still looking for any material online about best way to prep for actual failover of VMs on specific data store(s) and how it behaves on the DR (new protected) site  where two way replication will be taking place:

- There will be MirrorView Replication from SiteA (Protected site) to SiteB (DR) for DS2/DS3

- Mirrorview replication will be enabled after configuring the reprotection from SiteB to SiteA for DS1

Any feedback from anybody who ran this scenario before is appreciated.
