SRM Licencing mode

Hello,

I have a question about the SRM licencing mode

We are using VMWare 4 Update2 but for SRM5's implementation, we have planned first to migrate our vCenter in version 5.1
Our VMs to be secured are running on a cluster in Enterprise mode (we choose the version in the past version because Enterprise mode was necessary for HA component)
For our DRP cluster, we intend to use Standard licence
In which mode must SRM be installed ?

  1. Enterprise mode because VMs to secure are in Enterprise version
  2. Standard mode because DRP cluster is running Standard version

Can someone help me?

Michel

Hello and welcome to the communities.

My understanding is that the two SRM editions are the same, but Standard has the 75 VM limit. This limitation would be the deciding factor in choosing which version to use.

Hi,

As Brian said, the only diffference between SRM editions is max number of protected VMs.

Both editions of SRM can work with any supported vSphere edition (which can be different across sites).

Thanks for your answers

So as I was thinking first, SRM isn't licenced according to the VMWare licencing mode

I saw the SRM link at the end of last week

In an active - active environment, does the licence work separately on each sites or is it a global licence?

Hi,

If your vCenters are in Linked Mode, then both sites use the same license key.

If they are not, then you still may use same key on both sites or you may enter different keys.

Hi,

vSphere Replication is included in all editions except Essentials.

Thanks! Is it the same for 5.0 release or only for 5.1 ?

Before 5.1 vSphere Replication was only available as part of SRM.

OK,

in 5.0 release the VR Replication is on SRM Standard or Enterprise version? or both?
