ESXi Licensing

ESXi Licensing

HI, Does anybody use Servers running ESXi 5.0 U1? I got the license when it was ESXi 5.0.

But now when I want to activate my new server with 48G memory. It was failed because the limitation for 32G.

Is it true? Is ESXi not free now?

Good day!

If you're using ESXi 5 Free Edition, called VMware vSphere Hypervisor, then you're limited to a maximum vRAM entitlement of 32 GB RAM.  Here's a quote from the VMware website:

How much vRAM does a VMware vSphere Hypervisor license provide?
vSphere Hypervisor license provides a vRAM entitlement of 32GB per server, regardless of the number of physical processors. vSphere Hypervisor can be used on servers with maximum physical RAM capacity of 32GB.

There is one version of ESXi that is still free, but i's features are not unlimited.

Cheers,

Mike

Correct if you upgrade the RAM beyond 32 GB you can't use the free license. Also please put your questions in the discussion area not in the document section.

Document section is meant for sharing docs created for specific purposes.

Thanks you 2. YOu are right. I need purchase if my memory is bigger than 32G.

But the price include 1 year service. I am not sure after one year what will happen?

Block or still can use but without service.

But the price include 1 year service.

It seems obvious that you don't get any suport after one year but your licence lifetime is infinit.  But did you still get all the updates and patches for free ? good question

We recently purchased the essentials package for ESXi 5.1  and would like to upgrade it to 2 physical CPUs. How do i do this? I created a VMware account but i don't have my keys registered with the account because I got no idea on how to do that either. I have done numerous google searches and no luck there either.
