vmotion compatibility

I'm using IBM x5 based server(using intel E7-4800 cpu)  in our environment and need to add new x6 based server which is using new Intel E7-4800 v2 cpu. Am I  vmotion guests between these 2 servers without enabling EVC mode. I can't find any document or KB about this.

Thanks

I believe you will have to use EVC mode as the E7-4800 is a Westmere Gen chip while the E7-4800 v2 is an Ivy-Bridge Gen. You will have to run in Westmere EVC Mode.

This link says that the v2 is Ivy-Bridge: http://www.cpu-world.com/news_2013/2013102101_Intel_Xeon_E7_SKUs_to_launch_in_Q1_2014.html

And if you use the compatibility guide and compare the E5 2600 to the E5 2600 v2 you will see the same type modes expected with the new E7.
