Hi All,
I'm putting together a whitebox home lab / home network and wanted your comments on the components I'm choosing. The end goal is to procure an Areca 1680IX RAID card and move my home NAS into a virtual environment ontop of ESXi. For now I'll be stabilizing my FreeBSD system on newer / server hardware. Here are the core components that I'm considering:
Motherboard: SUPERMICRO X8SIA-F-0 - http://www.supermicro.com/xeon_3400/Motherboard/X8SIA.cfm?IPMI=Y
CPU: Intel Xeon X3440 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117225
RAM: 3x Kingston 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139024
Hard drives / case / etc I am planning on re-using. Any reason these components shouldn't work for a lab environment? Any recommendations for improvement?
Thanks!
Ryan
