msg.hbacommon.locklost when trying to attach virtual disk to new vm

I'm trying to move a couple of virtual disks from one virtual machine to another ("add new existing disk", browse to old vm's datastore, select disk), but when I try to start up the new vm, I get the locklost error, even though the original vm is not only shut down, but removed from inventory as well, which I *thought* would eliminate any locking issues.  I don't see anything obvious in the vmdk files, so if someone knows where to poke it to release the disk, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks!

Grasping at straws, I removed the old disks from the new vm, unmounted the datastore for the old vm, recreated the old datastore, re-added the disks to the new vm, and it powered up with no problems...  Fortunately, I use a separate nfs mount for each vm (they're separate zfs filesystems), so I could do that without affecting other running vms...
