disconnected 4.1 host

Hi all,

I have a 6 node HA/DRS cluster and noticed that one of my hosts is in a disconnected state. Of course, all VMs running on that host are also now showing disconnected, however the VMs themselves are running fine. HA has not kicked in.

I can ping the host, and it is definitely online, but I can't connect to it via the vSphere client. I can SSH to it. I can connect to its DRAC card, just the vSphere client isn't working.

Reconnecting the host in vCenter fails and I can't connect directly to the ESXi server with the vSphere client either. I've tried restarting the management agents and that has not helped. I've also tried restarting the management network and all networking tests pass.

Obviously I can't vMotion these VMs to another host since I can't manage it.

What should I do? Should I login to each VM and gracefully shut them down via the guest OS, and then reboot the ESXi server via the DRAC card? Not sure what else to try...

Thanks,

Did you already take a look at the logfiles (/var/log/messages, vpxa) on the host and/or the vpxd logs on the vCenter Server? Maybe you can find a hint in these files.

Check your DNS resolution, you´ve created the alias host for this ESXi server?

Maybe you have renamed the host?

After you have restart the management services on it, you can try to remove from vCenter inventory and add it again.
