Dear all,
I need to upgrade my VM's to the latest VMware Tools version (9.0.10 from 5.1.0 Update 2).
As some of the VM's are used in a production environment, the reboot has to be done during the night on the weekend.
I wanted to create a scheduled task for automatic update of VMware Tools, but unfortunately this task is not available.
I wonder if there is a way, to create additional scheduled tasks by using the vSphere scheduler.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards, Werner
Hi Werner,
PFB the process to install VMtool without rebooting machines.
1. Click on any vm that needs the tools updated
2. Right click on vm and hover over Guest and the select Install/Upgrade VMware Tools
3. Click on Automatic Tools Upgrade and in Advanced Options enter the follow command
/S /v" /qn REBOOT=R"

I suggest creating a few folders in the VMs and templates and use to temporary move VMs into scheduled maintenance,
when you get downtime for patch management then upgrade first VM tool.
After remediation process make schedule for patching VM(As per your plan)
You can take snapshot prior for doing patch management and remove it after tested system.
