We have 2 ESXi 5.5 Server with same Hardware (HP ProLiant DL380 G7), 1 of them crashes . Below is the vmkernel-log.
We upgraded the Firmware to latest and run the RAM test, its run successfully.
Kindly help us to find out the root cause of this issue.
First of all: Is all BIOS/firmware on that particular server up to date?
Secondly I would check BIOS settings if power management is turned off ("static high performance" mode enabaled) and within VMWare also turned off (host -> Configuration tab -> (Hardware) Power Management -> "High Performance" selected).
Some additional notes on a similar error are found in this discussion at HP support forums: DL380G7 Uncorrectable Machine Check Exception - HP Enterprise Business Community
Seems like an NMI-generated hardware issue to me.
Run a dedicated HP hardware diagnosis tool and not just memtest.
Also consider updating to the latest ESXi HP custom image.
VMware fixes a lot of PSOD issues with almost every patch, and an up to date HP image gives you the most recent hardware drivers as well as the HP management extensions + NMI bundle.
And what is mostly forgotten with HP servers: Also check if the iLo's firmware is up to date, in some circumstances this could cause an NMI/MCE, too, because iLo monitors hardware status on the server.
Thanks cyKVM & MKguy for your reference.
Server already have latest Firmware (07/02/2013_ download from HP website) and we turn ON the "static high performance" power mode.
Now we make this server under observation and parallely we will update the ESXi HP custom image and iLo's firmware.
But from HP website (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=4091567&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4168) Esxi 5.0 only available, w need 5.5 Version.
Expecting your more advice on this regard and we will post the updation about our troubleshooting.
You can download the latest 5.5 HP custom ISO here:
https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=HP-ESXI-5.5.0U2-GA&productId=353
Best practice would be to run the latest HP Proliant Service Pack (SPP) CD for your server model. Also the storage controller's and the NIC's firmware should be updated to the latest.
And by the way, all HP customized ESXi 5.5 ISOs (5.5.0, Update 1 and Update 2) are listed here below "Software - CD-ROM): http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=4091567&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4166
