Does anyone know whether it is possible to make standalone vSwitches utilize its own VLAN ID without any underlying switches?
For example,
An ESXi server environment that has no physical switches to load traffic and only utilize vSwitch(es) + customized VLAN IDs for VM to communicate.
Does that make sense? doable?
Why I think that we are talking here about the nested environment.
It can be possible to work with VMs but with VLAN's a bit complicated.
You can of course setup something like this. Note however, that in such a scenario, it's you who also has to setup e.g. a virtual router to allow communication between the different VLANs/subnets if required.

well, yes. I'm talking about the concept of nested environment.
but now there's another doubt popped up in my mind for such scenario: can a computer/laptop access the networks in vSwitch via connecting to vmnic directly?
