Ubuntu 8.04 processors

Hi everyone!

We have vsphere4 Essentials plus installed with 2 hosts and a SAN.

We recently installed a new email server, Axigen, on Ubuntu 8.04 server. The server sees both of our AMD 4 core processors. In the vsphere GUI, it's set to see only one processor. cat /proc/cpuinfo shows both AMD processors, so changing the number of processors it sees in the vsphere GUI makes no difference. Why???

Is this a vmware issue of somekind?

The virtual machine will actually see bpth processors and will get recorded in the /proc/cpuinfo but with the vcpu count set to 1 when the vm submits executions to run to the vmkernel the vmkernel will schedule those instructions to a single core on one of the two cpus - to check while you ubuntu server is running run the top command and see how many cpus it recognizes - it should only be one -
