Transfer an Esx 2.5 Virtual Machine to an ESX 4.1

Hi all,

For a custumer I need to transfert 3 VMs on an ESX 2.5 in stand alone mode (local storage / VMFS2) to a new ESX 4.1 (local storage / VMFS3)

I have search for some solution but with no success. I see two way to do it but I cannot test it before the migration, so could you give me yours advices.

1)       I copy all virtual machines from the ESX 2.5 to the new storage on the ESX 4.1 with scp.

I create new Virtual Machine with the vmdk

          I put the lastest VmTools

          I upgrade the Virtual Hardware

2)       I try to user the VmConverter but I don'k know if it recognize the Esx 2.5 Virtual Machine

Is there any other solution ?

Thanks for your help !

Regards,

Franck

the best solution in my opnion is with converter http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vcenter_converter_standalone/4_0?hl=p...

after do conversion upgrade vmware tools and after upgrade HW Virtual.

Check procedure "how do upgrade of HW Virtual"

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101067...

one way is to use vmware converter and install inside the VM and convert it to the ESX 4.1 ..
