Hi All,
We are using SnapManager for Virtual Infrastructure (SMVI) Backup tools for backing up our VMs. We have got more then 2000 VMs for backup and we have divided our backup jobs into slots.
Issue we are facing is then our few os VMs are not beign backed up , about 8 to 10 VM.
Could you please recommand few solutions and recommanded steps that we can try.
Just fyi.....we have tried below steps however no help
1. Reinstall the VMware tools - Done
2. Upgrade the hardware version 7 – Done
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
DL
Hi DL,
SMVI is just a workflow that chains up different processes:
- tell vCenter to take a snapshot of a VM
- tell NetApp to take a snapshot of a volume
- tell vCenter to remove a snapshot
You have to identify for the faulty VMs the step that failed: on the vCenter, inside the VM.... Then check the logs to find the root cause.
Good luck!

I have encountered an issue between VMTools and NetApp Snapdrive service
When the VM starts it takes 10-15min to start the Snapdrive service
I've put this service on "delayed start" and now it starts within 1min
Not sure if this is in any way related to you issue, but thought it is worth mentioning
We are currently busy with a 1st time deployment with the SnapMirror and SnapSQL technologies
I will let you know if we run into the same kind of scenario

where this NetApp Snapdrive service would be?
where this NetApp Snapdrive service would be? alos, we are facing this issue only with few vms not with all
where this NetApp Snapdrive service would be?
I'm presuming you are using NetApp's SMVI (Doubletake also calls their Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrstructure SMVI)
The "SnapDrive" service will be running on the VM itself in services.
NetApp uses this service to do the snapshots for SMVI
See if this service is running on the problematic VMs
Like I said, I don't have too much experiance on this technology, but should have a firm understanding after our current project
