Shutdown via F12

What is expected to happen if I press F12 from the ESXi console to shutdown the host 8not member of any vSphere infrastructure)?

Given that guest VMs are cionfngured to shutdown automatically, will they performa a shutdown or just a power off?

Regards

Hi there,

In the configuration of the ESXi host you can enable the shutting down /starting up of VMs with the host, and also you can choose what Shutdown actions you want to take on shutdown/startup of the host.

In the client highlight the host and on the Configuration tab choose Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown, then hit Properties.  You can then choose the Shutdown Action of either Power Off, Suspend or Guest Shutdown (needs VMware Tools)

So to answer your question, the VMs will do whatever you set in the configuration if automatic startup/shutdown is enabled!

Hope this helps
