Random vSphere Client Disconnects

Hello,

I'm experiencing a strange issue where my vSphere client disconnects and then instantly reconnects when managing a stand alone ESXi 5.0 host. After I log into the vSphere client everything works as expected but at what seems like random intervals the main window will lose the connection and then reconnect.  I see a reconnecting window flash quickly and all the tree of resource pools collapse down to the root.

Everything on the host continues running normally, the virtual machiens are not affected.

While troubleshooting I eliminated the network as a cause.  I created an internal virtual network and ran the vSphere client on an internal VM pointing to a secondary internal vmkernel port.  I still observed the random disconnects on the internal only virtual network.

I took a look at the logs but nothing really stood out, although I don't really know what log to look in.  I also updated the host with the latest patches build 515841 to see if that would help but it had no affect.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Steve

Note: This resolution is provided for a vCenter Server installed on a Windows 2008 R2 operating system.

  1. On vCenter Server, navigate to Control Panel > Windows firewall > Exceptions.
  2. Edit the exception (firewall rule) for VMware vCenter Server-Host Heartbeat and click Properties. VMware vCenter Server- Host Heartbeat Properties window opens.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. In the Profiles section, specify the correct profile as domain.
  5. Save the rule and re-add the ESX host back to vCenter Server.

I did not see anything in the Windows event viewer.  However, I kept a close eye on the esxi host logs when the issue occured and I found this exactly when the issue happened:

Hi! I got the same problem, can't handle it. Googled all over, have tried everything. You solved it?
