P2V - Cold Cloning vs. Converter

Whenever I am using VMWare Converter to P2V a machine, there are issues to work around most of the time.

Isn't Cold Clone a better option?  Isn't it faster as well?

I know you can't download the official CD unless you have an Enterprise license.

What is everyone else doing for a Cold Cloning option?

Cold clone does provide a cleaner conversion because you do not have to worry abbout what might be running in the OS but it is not necessary faster - the most common cause of slow {2V tends to be the network infrastructure - Live migrations using converter work fine as long as you prepare the source machine by running a defrag, stopping antivirus services and disabling other services that are can interfere with the migration -

In regards to converter you do not need an enterprise version to down load the standalone converter which will include the the converter boot cd -

  2. Is it better than the VMWare Converter BootCD?
  3. Does it have more drivers?
