Am I correct in understanding that you must purchase enterprise plus and then also a specific license for the nexus 1000v or do you get the nexus1000v with your enterprise plus purchase?

I believe that is correct because the 1000v software is a Cisco product -

Enterprise Plus include distributed vNetwork switches support, and VMware switch is bundled for free. Cisco Nexus 1000v can be used in Enterprise Plus, but you have to buy Nexus 1000v separately, 700$ per host socket + support.

Cisco does not want to give away Nexus 1000v for free, it is normal.

You know, I have Enterprise license and I am going to upgrade it Enterprise Plus and buy some more licenses. But I do not see where Nexus 1000v is helpful for me, I do not use even 20% of standard vSwitches functionality. Ok, maybe I can use some new features of distributed switches.

VMware is virtualization lead, Cisco is networking lead. First release, first product from lead vendors.

I suppose there will be more vendors sometimes. Maybe even tomorrow.

    Hi,

VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus is required to run distributed switches! So unless you are a new customer, you typically need to upgrade.

    Three options:

    1. You can buy it seperately from Cisco or through VMware.

    2. You can buy it bundled from VMware or through your 3rd party hardware vendor.

    3. Until December 15th there will be a competative upgrade available. Enterprise --> Enterprise Plus + Cisco V1000. (List $ 795,- per socket).

    Regards, Ronald
