Need help on fixing Pink Screen error in ESXi 5.5.0

Hi,

After a sudden power supply down (or)  power trip, my ESXi 5.5.0 shows Pink Screen error. When i restart, it works fine.

But, it occurs each time when there is a power supply down. I am working in support team, please share your valuable suggestions to fix this.

Hi,

This is related to your VM's NIC that you are using E1000 NIC. Read this article and apply proper patch on your ESXi.

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=205905...

Also I recommend, use VMXNET3 instead of E1000, if possible.

Hi,

Thanks for the KB article. I already viewed it. Can you please clear the following questions i want to clarify these before going to apply patch.

1. Confirm me whether Virtual Machines in the ESXi host needs Shutdown (or) Migration after the Patch update????

Because Migration is not possible, i dont have a downtime since all are Production VM's.

2. Confirm whether this Patch is not going to affect the Present state of the VM, Datastore anything right??

Thanks in advance,

Sureshkumar

if the esxi Server is in a cluster, you can migrate your VMs life with vMotion.

If it is a standalone esxi server, you first have to shut down all virtual machines before you can start with the update of the esxi server.

the patch will only affect the esxi server. the datastore and the VMs are not affected...

Hi,

You have to restart the host after patching, so if you have VM on this, you have to move them or shutdown them.

Also ESXi patch has no affect or impact on datastore, just some files will be updated on ESXi image.

I dont have a vCenter to update the patches through "Update manager".

Can you tell me someother way to update the "Patch". I have the "vSphere" environment only.

Also tell me how long it will take time to finish the Patching activity.

Yes, you can do it without vCenter and Update Manager.

You can do it via ESXi shell by ESXCLI command line.

Read this KB for more information: VMware KB: Installing patches on an ESXi 5.x host from the command line
