it could be the cache battery and etc. it should disappear a while after full charge. if it's still there you will need to log a call to dell and have their engineer replace the battery.

Some of the LSI controllers periodically perform a reconditioning cycle.

During the reconditioning cycle, which takes approximately 8 to 10 hours, the battery's holdover time is reduced to zero (during discharge) and then restored (during full charge).

Hi,

As we have restarted all the ESX server for Maintanance, that may be the reason the "host battery status alarm" came, but i think after some certain time the server battery will get charged, than now am not seeing any error or alarm for batter.

Hi,

     I suspect that you are using ESX version prior to 4.0 Update 2. If you are then it is a known issue in the earlier versions. Host battery always goes through a learn cycle(charge/discharge). When it is in the discharge state , you will get a warning (yellow) , but you should not get a critical alarm (red) .

So, if you do not want this problem to come back at all , please upgrade to ESX version 4.0 U2 or 4.1 GA ... This issue has been fixed in these releases.

From my previous Comment:::: I looked up the following in the VMware KB. But the problem is what if the battery really fails. Hence the suggested upgrades:

<snip>

On certain versions of vSphere Client, the battery status might be incorrectly listed as an alert
In vSphere Client from the Hardware Status tab, when the battery is in its learn cycle, the battery status provides an alert message indicating that the health state of the battery is not good. However, the battery level is actually fine.

Workaround: None.
