Guest exposed to lower Intel CPU family than ESXi

Hi Folks, one of our app team posted question they could see from Windows guest computer management, processor information is listed as "Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6248 CPU @ 2.50GHz" while physical ESXi is configured with "Xeon(R) Platinum 8260 CPU @ 2.40GHz".

I compared similar spec VM in different cluster, it see processor information inline with what ESXi has. What could be the reason set of Guest see lower CPU family vs what ESXi original has?

Thanks,

Hari

Just a guess. Has the VM been powered on on a host with the 6248 CPU?

I did reviewed the old cluster from where it was moved to the current cluster. Old cluster was running with 6248 CPU and it seems this VM never rebooted since it moved to the new cluster. So reboot did the trick and now guest sees the 8260!
