Failed to initialize additional processors during start up

I've been trying to get VM ESXi 4.1 to work on a dell 2950 server with no success. The first time I installed ESXi4.1 everything went through as planned. However, after a day the ESXi instance crashed and the debugger had the following message: Recursive panic on same CPU. After trying to reboot the machine, the server would fail each time during ESXi startup during the Initiating scheduler phase citing: Failed to initialize additional processors during startup.

The bios are the latest bios and all the bios settings are set to factory default.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do now?

Jeff,

I don't know much about Dell servers, however most vendors provide a hardware tests CDROM. If you have one, please run a complete HW test. If you don't have one you could try to boot a Linux Live CDROM to see if this works.

Also check the HCL, I saw one of the Dell 2950 (2950-III with Intel 51xx CPU's) is not supported for 4.1.

I ran the dell diagnostics and everything came back passed except for a power supply redundancy failure. Would that power supply affect ESXi?

Have you upgraded the firmware to last version?

Intel VT is enabled in the BIOS?
