Downsizing vmdk after migration

Hi at,

I'm looking for a easy way to downsize some of our virtual machines.

History: I did a clone of a virtual machine to a new ESX Host.

I changed the Fileformat from "Thick Provisionning" to "Thin Provisionning".

Now there is no more space left on the LUN. (Storage)

My Idea was to downsize some of my virtualdisks. Because, the disks are only filled with 60 of 120 GB.

How can i downsize the virtualmachine?

After migrating from Thick to Thin, why is the vmdk file still 120GB big and not 60GB of the used space?

Regards

Raphi

You might want to look at VMware Converter as a way to do this. It will let you resize the disks during the convert process.

storage vmotion would do the trick if you have the option in your license.

vmware converter is the other option.

while you can use vmkfstools, if this is a production machine I wouldnt risk it
