Accidentally uninstalled AD LDS Instance VMwareVCMSDS from VCenter server

I made the silly mistake of uninstalling AD LDS Instance VMwareVCMSDS and Active Directory Lightweight Service from our VCenter 5 Server, thinking it was related to another service that was decomissioned from that server.  Now the VMware VirtualCenter Server service will not start therefore Vsphere cannot connect.

Is there a fast and easy way to get this back up and running?

Cheers

Do you have a backup? If so, reinstall the AD LDS.

Within the action menu, select Recover.

Follow the bouncing ball until you select Recover Files and Folders, then browse to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft ADAM\<name of your instance>, and select recover to original location.

Open a command prompt, and type dsdbutil

Type activate instance <instance name>

Type authoritative restore

Type restore database

Hope that helps,

Unfortunately only file based backups.  I bit the bullet and uninstalled VCenter, took a backup of VIM_UMDB and VIM_VCDB databases in SQL Management Studio and re-installed VCenter.  After that I Restored the two databases to the new install.  As far as I can see everything is working correctly.

Lesson learnt, won't be making this mistake again.
