Converted VM, Windows XP Home on Toshiba Laptop does not boot

Converted VM, Windows XP Home on Toshiba Laptop does not boot

I have ESXi 4 running on a 4 GB RAM , IDE HDD system for testing. I am trying to convert my Toshiba L30 laptop which is running Windows XP Home with a 40 GB HDD using VmWare vCenter Convertor Standalone. While the convertion process is flowless, the VM does not boot. After BIOS check the VM hangs up immediately with a stationory curser on top left hand corner of the screen. The cursor does not even blink. The Toshiba L30 is having a IDE HDD.

I tried various fixes recommended by the forum.

1) Removing the CDROM drive

2) Choose IDE instead of Preserve source in creating VM.

3) Extracted the Atapi.sys, Intelide.sys, Pciide.sys, and Pciidex.sys files from the %SystemRoot%\Driver Cache\I386\Driver.cab file, and copy the files to the %SystemRoot%\System32\Drivers folder. And then merged the Mergeide.reg file to registry. Megeide.reg file was created as per another article in the forum.

Nothing seems to work. Help is much appreciated.
