vSphere Client crashes when trying to import (via Converter)??

VMWare ESX 4.0 Host with 3 VMs

vCenter installed on its own VM

OS of vCenter Server is Windows Server 2008 R2

vCenter Converter service is started on VM

vCenter Converter server installed

vCenter Converter 4.1.1 plug-in enabled

Not sure what is going on, but while in vSphere Client, I select my ESX Host and choose Import Machine...

Then, the vSphere Client shuts down... almost as if it has crashed. Nothing happens after that. I have to re-login to vCenter.

Anyone know what is going on or know where I can look to see if anything is recorded in any log files?

Thanks,

Clay

Have you found anything in the log files?

Could you provide specific log files to look in? I have looked through a few, using the log bundle generators, and I don't see anything that seems relevant. I have WinSCP into the host, looked at those log files as well, nothing relevant.

Have you checked on "Documents and settings\all users\application data\vmware"?

Nothing there... again, the vCenter Server is on a Win Server 2008 R2 machine, so that directory doesn't exist. I found other vmware directories, via search, but found nothing relevant in them. What are you trying to get me to look for?

The last line that shows the error before the crash Smiley Wink

Well, definitely nothing in any of the logs I have looked in. I can recreate the issue instantly, so if you can provide the exact log file I should be looking at, I should be able to let you know what that says...

Take a look at this http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100368... on how to view log files of the vsphere client

I installed the vCenter Converter Standalone... everything seemed to go smoothly. Not sure why the Import Machine function didn't work and I do not see anything relevant in the log files, so I will abandon the issue for now.
