Good afternoon, I have been trying to convert 2 servers for about a week now. They are running Redhat 5.5. I have been running into all sort of issues. In the beginning the servers would not query and i got passed that but now i have been stuck with this message since yesterday. I have looked at the Forums and I still have not moved anywhere. All I am trying to do is convert 2 old servers to my new esxi server. Please help!! The converter gets to about 3 percent and then Fails.

I will attach my log if that will help.
Hi,
What version of VMware converter are you using? Please have a look here : https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=20730...
It looks like this was an issue in previous versions :
This issue occurs because the DSA key for SSH is unsupported in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.0, 5.1, and 5.5.
ok im using 5.5 i will try another version and let you know the end result
Actually im running 6.1but ill try reinstalling
OK so I reinstalled the program and I am still having the same problems. Please Help
on the Linux host that you are trying to convert please edit the following :
vi /etc/hosts.allow
Add the following line
ALL:ALL
Then service network restart
I did that also still nothing
You've checked /etc/hosts.deny to make sure the subnet for esx hosts/ the machine running converter are not listed, correct?
You can ssh to the linux machine from the machine that has converter on it? Also, I think you are already using IP address but the FQDN is fully resolvable and all host records are correct in DNS?
You can also try disabling SSL and try again.
Follow this :
Disabling SSL encryption on VMware Converter Standalone 5.x and 6.0 (2020517) | VMware KB
sorry, there are quite a few errors in the logs and some of them are general.. So to pinpoint this we may have to troubleshoot a bit.
Hey,
I tried this "Disabling SSL encryption on VMware Converter Standalone 5.x and 6.0 (2020517) | VMware KB" also still no progress.
Hello,
the destination VM (where converter helper runs) needs to connect to the source machine to pull the data.
The destination VM has got a link-local IPv6 address:
2016-08-03T09:06:11.766-05:00 info vmware-converter-worker[01164] [Originator@6876 sub=task-2] Got remote helper VM IP addresses as: fe80::20c:29ff:fe64:2da
while the source machine is IPv4:
2016-08-03T08:58:23.043Z verbose vmware-converter-helper[F346CB70] [Originator@6876 sub=Default] Convert source: (converter.ComputerSpec) {
--> location = (converter.ComputerSpec.LiveComputerLocation) {
--> hostname = "129.166.9.205",
You need to configure the VM network where the destination VM will be created not only to have the same IP version but also to be route-able to the source machine's network.
HTH,
Plamen
Edit:
Some more info: when converter attempts to get the address of the helper (dest. machine) it prefers IPv6 public, then IPv4, then IPv6 link-local address.
