VDR 2 and MSSQL?

Does VDR with vSphere 5 now support backups of MSSQL server databases?

I noticed that after VDR takes the snapshot of the VM, SQL 2005 management studio updates the database and says it was last backed up at the time of the snapshot. This would lead me to believe that since it is VSS aware, it is properly backing up the database too.

Has anyone else seen this?

I found another thread that made reference to vsphere5 and application awareness in the new vmware tools. It would appear that any backup service which uses the vstorage API should now be able to do SQL/Exchange backups.

I'm not sure this is officially supported but it appears to work...
