Default is 5min collection intervals. Do you want to have a shorter collection interval? You can get fancy with setting different collection intervals from the adapter per attrib package/etc, however it gets to be a lot to keep track of.
It comes down to your use case. Will you react immediately to an alert to the degree that 1min vs 5min would make a difference to your organization? Maybe yes, but more often than not no. From my experience, it would not make a difference at the end of the day as the human-factor is going be the weakest link in the chain of notification (we're talking vCenter events now.. not perf metric collect interval for more granular analysis).
