There are 2 main components involved: Connection Server and the ESX server that contains the VMs. Is it the "Connection Server" that can handle the 1000 connections? Also, how many VMs can the ESX server contain? Thanks.

It states that "View Connection Server runs on a 32‐bit or 64‐bit dedicated physical or virtual server with the following specifications..." However, the next couple of paragraphs down it is stated that "The View Connection Server can be installed on the following 32‐bit operating systems..." It does not document any 64-bit OS's that can the Connection server can be installed on. Do you know where it is documented that the connection server can be run on a 64-bit system, and in application what 64-bit OS's have been recommended to work without issues? Thanks.

Thanks. I know that I can use the web portal and view client. However, is there a way to use the web portal only without the need to install the view client? I am running into the issue where I have to be logged in with a local admin account in order to download the view client after connecting to the web portal. For example, I want to make it possible for a user who is logged into a public computer to be able to log into the web portal and connect to a desktop source. More often than not, the local account will be a guest or restricted user account; therefore, he will not be able to download the view client after authenticating to the web portal.

Is this possible? If so, how?

If not, then can the a properly authenticated domain user login to a local guest or user privileged account and install the view client software? Or does the domain user need to be logged into a local administrator account in order to download the view client software? I have tested this and I experienced that the only way I was able to download the view client software and succesfully connect to a desktop source was if I logged in as a local administrator.

I know that with Citrix (sorry to mention that name here), I was able to download the client while being logged into the machine with local guest account. Their client had a very small footprint.

Your help please. Is it only used for authentication, or the entire session (e.g., from the time the user logs into the View Portal til he logs off / shuts down the VM and terminates his session in the View Portal)?

Thanks for the reply. No, this is a VM that I have uploaded to a datastore in ESX. The VM that the ESX server is running on seems to working fine as far as I know. The guest OS for the ESX server is RHEL 4 64-bit. I wonder if the Virtual Infrastructure Client, which manages the ESX server, needs to be installed on a 64 bit system? Do you know if this could be causing the issue?

I know this thread may be a bit old, but I am having the same issue. I have made all the configuration changes to the outer vmx file (ESX VM), but to no avail. I am using an ESX 3.5 server on a VM. I have install my Virtual Infrastructure client 2.5 on a physical machine. The vitrual infrastructure client was on a VM also, but I have since installed it on a physical machine instead thinking this would solve the issue but it didn't. Here is my VMX file after modifying:

extendedConfigFile = "New Virtual Machine.vmxf"

scsi0.present = "true"

scsi0.sharedBus = "none"

memsize = "256"

scsi0:0.present = "true"

scsi0:0.fileName = "New Virtual Machine.vmdk"

scsi0:0.deviceType = "scsi-hardDisk"

ide0:0.present = "true"

ide0:0.clientDevice = "true"

ide0:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw"

ide0:0.startConnected = "false"

floppy0.startConnected = "false"

floppy0.clientDevice = "true"

ethernet0.present = "true"

ethernet0.networkName = "VM Network"

ethernet0.addressType = "generated"

ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

guestOSAltName = "Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit)"

guestOS = "winxppro"

uuid.location = "56 4d b6 7a 20 37 98 d8-12 df 13 9c 69 45 90 df"

uuid.bios = "56 4d b6 7a 20 37 98 d8-12 df 13 9c 69 45 90 df"

toolScripts.afterPowerOn = "true"

toolScripts.afterResume = "true"

toolScripts.beforeSuspend = "true"

toolScripts.beforePowerOff = "true"

monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware"

monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "true"

floppy0.fileName = "/dev/fd0"

Thanks for your help.
