I installed Vmware Converter Standalone to create a VM backup of my Win 10 Pro machine but when I open the app, as soon as I click "convert machine" or "configure machine" it locks up 100%, and I have to end the task. I have used it a bunch in the past, but never had this problem before.

Clicking anywhere just makes a beep. I tried looking for any open windows that may be hidden but there are none. I've removed it then reinstalled it. Prior to clicking convert machine, all the menus are functional. Any suggsstions?

I see the following ion the event viewer

The program converter.exe version 8.6.6.35342 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.
Process ID: 5a9c
Start Time: 01d98f40de16ee35
Termination Time: 4294967295
Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\converter.exe
Report Id: c6ed0217-86a3-46e5-9d2c-b7ff00b1eb38
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:
Hang type: Top level window is idle

I gave the pstoric user explicit permissions on the target folder, double checked to make sure UAC was off on both source and destination computers (it was), and I'm already using the UNC path.

I'm going to try changing the target just an external disk to see if that makes a difference.

I can browse the SMB share and create/modify files without any issues. "everyone" has full permissions

UAC is off on the source machine

For AV, I'm using windows defender, no third party AV

Yes converter was started as admin

So you think it's the target? That's odd as it shows "FAILED: Insufficient permissions to access the source". Wouldn't the source be the machine I'm trying to convert?

I’m trying to convert my physical laptop to a VM using Vmware Converter 6.2 but it keeps failing with “insufficient permissions to access the source” which is odd as I’m using my account which is a member of the local administrator’s group and the target is an SMB share on my desktop shared out to “everyone” with full permissions.

I made sure I can brose that share and create files (which worked) and then I even gave the users group full rights over the same folder, but it didn’t change anything. UAC is off on both machines. Not sure what I’m missing. I’ve attached the log.

Using VMware Workstation 15.1. Need some help here. I’m attempting to do a bare metal Veeam recovery of Server 2008R2 into a blank VM but I cannot seem to mount the folder that’s on my external drive that contains the backups. When I go to VM > Removable Devices > and then select my external I get the messages below but when I hit browse the drive isn't listed. Any ideas?
