email sent to Raghu.Raghuram CEO of VMware

Dear VMware

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the VMware Workstation Pro 17.5. I have been experiencing several issues that have significantly impacted my work and productivity.

Prior to the latest upgrade everything with my VM's was nearly perfect. After the upgrade, they have ALL developed a problem, where after a time, maybe 10 to 15 minutes - they stop responding to the mouse and keyboard. You can get to the console, and pause or terminate them, but nothing brings the mouse or keyboard back.

I have attempted to resolve these issues, but unfortunately, the problems persist.

Seems to be a common problem. Many folks have reverted to 17.0.x to get around this. However, I do not have access to this version.

Because there does not seem to be any document relating to this current issue am I to assume VMware is unaware of the issue?

Others are reporting issues in trying to log the fault often met with “log an incident” and pay for support. This policy is working against you as the issue is entirely a fault of faulty software, which begs the question of how this got past testing, as the problem was immediate and widespread.

I believe that a product of VMware's reputation should provide a reliable and efficient service. Therefore, I kindly request that you address these issues as soon as possible.

I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution to my problems. Please do not hesitate to contact me at (your contact information) should you require further information.

Yours sincerely,

Just an update first lock out of the day on one of my pre 17.5 builds

Updating the VM tools did not resolve the issue

One thing I have noiced is that during a failure it can repeat the last character could be anything from letters numbers or any of the arrows, or control keys but the new installs are yet to see t the issue I really hope I don't have to rebuild all my environments

The results are inconclusive but here goes:

Last night installed a fresh ubuntu and redhat instances so far no issues working perfectly

I have now deleted my other VMs - kali and csi linux and re added them so far so good but it could be several hours until a failure - so its too early to say if this has worked.

It would be nice if others try the same.

Note the fresh builds do not have open-vm-tools installed yet

VM workstation sets off ms Xbox game bar, this, in turn, lists vmworkstation in my "game" activity. While this isn't a massive problem I would like to fully understand what is going on.

I can use the game bar to record activity, very useful but I have better screen recording, for some its a privacy thing.

Any suggestions yo keep vmworkstatiom from registering its activity would be grateful.
