Mouse input delay / Slow window content dragging with Appstacks attached

Vmware Horizon Agent : 8.2.0

Vmware Tools : 11.3.0.18090558

App Volumes Agent : 4.4.0.73

Windows 10 21H1

This has been a very weird issue for me lately. But when i have no Appstacks attached the window content drag seems to work flawlessly.

I've tried this on all accepted resolutions from 1-3 monitors with same results.

Example : NO APPSTACKS ATTACHED Window content dragging

But when i attach 1 or more appstacks i experience alot of delay in dragging windows. Its very hard to drag the windows this way and my mouse pointer is way off. It's hard to describe without showing you a video of me actually doing it with the mouse. But i'm hoping you know what i mean.

In other words the delay between mouse movement from endpoint to client is substantial compared to when no appstacks are attached.

Example: APPSTACKS ATTACHED Window content dragging.

What's the best way to troubleshoot this?

Anyone experienced this issue?

EDIT: ISSUE RESOLVED. AppVolumes was not the culprit!

We configured Dynamic Environment Manager to Redirect AppData for convenience. We had this one very old setting that was managing "Wallpaper" settings. Turns out when we looked further it had a warning saying "DO NOT REDIRECT THIS WITH APPDATA REDIRECTION ENABLED". As soon as we turned this setting off we got a mere boost of 15-30% performance on our VDI desktops.

Rule of thumb. If you're redirecting AppData like we are. Make sure none of the application settings you backup Include <APPDATA> settings.

Why did JMP get discontinued?

I'm having difficulties as to why the JMP(Just in time platform) is no longer in use in Horizon 8. Anyone know why?

I found it quite nice to be able to manage and maintain departments one by one. But since Jump is just a bundle of.xml configuration files. Will i be able to utilize them somewhere else? For example DEM?

What products are similar to JMP?

Am i maybe misunderstanding the statement?

Google Chrome + Non Persistent + App Vols

We've been deploying "Google Chrome Enterprise" AppStack to our users via JMP assignments. And we're noticing that the Chrome Archive file can go up to 200-400 MB. This causes the Chrome application to launch very late.

Are there any recommendation on how to deploy Google Chrome Enterprise where we can retain as much settings as possible without expanding the zip file too much?

<IMG alt=""

Hey guys,

I just finished reviewing the customization guide from Techzone { Creating an Optimized Windows Image for a VMware Horizon Virtual Desktop | VMware }

In the article they mention that they execute Vmware Tools installation with a couple of parameters:

d:\setup64.exe /s /v" /qb REBOOT=R ADDLOCAL=ALL REMOVE=Hgfs,SVGA,VSS,AppDefense,NetworkIntrospection"

This command uses the
REMOVE
option to remove the following modules:

(Conditional)
SVGA
is the VMware SVGA driver, but a newer version will be installed by the Horizon Agent.

Important: If this VM is to be used without installing the Horizon Agent, do not remove the
SVGA
module.

My question is. Are there any downsides for having duplicate Display Adapters? I've ran into issues before with laptops running on hybrid graphics that they tend to get confused on which one they use per application. Is this similar?

Also. I tried running the setup with these parameters and the display adapter is still present on the Golden Image.

Any thoughts?

The reason why i ask is because i'm trying to get the user experience up as much as possible with no GRID installation in the environment.

Graphics tend to be the main reason why my users see it as a "downgrade" when we're migrating over to VDI.

How are you guys getting the most out of graphics with no GRID?

Environment:

Instant Clones

Agent 7.11

vSphere Client version 6.7.0.30000

App Vols 2.18

DEM 9.10

Windows 10 - 1909

hey ashsevenuk80. These were Automated ,dedicated linked clones.

We're quickly transisting over to Instant Clones so we're hoping that the issue won't persist there.

While we're migrating we're manually un-assigning and deleting the machines when they're entitlement has been removed.

To answer your question we only entitle security groups to our desktop pools. So it was weird seeing a disabled user with no access rights what so ever being re-created contantly.

Our solution was to gradually decrease the max number of machines and reduce the mininum ammount of machines allowed.

We noticed after the summer that we had assigned users to a security group that is entitled to our desktop pools.

But after the summer we've noticed that the users that are disabled in AD are still assigned to their available machines even though they're not "entitled".

At first we thought it would be enough to simply delete these machines but after a while they had been automatically recreated. We then realized that the max number of machines was too high and we lowered that number by a significant amount to match our active users.

Is there a way to unassign and delete these machines automatically when a user leaves the organization? At the moment we've been unassigning users and deleting these machines manually.

We've been running into these issues since Agent 7.02 -

We're running 7.7 now.

UEM 9.6

App-Volumes 2.15

Win 10 1803

esxi 6.7

Whenever a user Disconnects and Logs off, and then logs in again, it seem like the profile hasn't finished exporting properly and as soon as the user logs back in, almost non of the saved Application Data loads, Outlook runs into startup problems and the File Explorer menu font is bold.

Its hard for the typical user to notice that something is wrong and the environment is weird.

Examples in a non functional environment:

The screen sometimes starts blinking and all the fonts are weird. Logon time is longer than usual.

Take note of the difference in fonts. To the left is the non functional environment and to the right is the functional one.

Is anyone familiar with this issue? Are we running the profile import/export incorrectly? Where is the best place to start investigating regarding profile load?

If you're running Horizon Agent 7.7 the issue might be related to an outdated Vmware Horizon Client. I'd recommend updating the Client on the endpoint.

We tried setting a GPO to lock settings and automatically map to COM1 but the issue persists. Any ideas?

Hello ,

We're running:

Horizon 7.6

Linked clones

App-V 2.14.2

UEM 9.5

Windows 10 1803

We have a couple of users that are using receipt printers that print through COM1. The issue we're facing is that very frequently the Serial Redirection tray icon vanishes when the user reconnects to the session and can't print. At the moment the workaround has been either disconnecting and reconnecting the session or rebooting the virtual machine so the Serial Redirection agent runs again.

Is it necessary to configure GPO's for Serial Redirection?

Is this a known issue?

Where can i review the log files for information?
