One thing triggers the other... Is there any reason for VMWare to keep adding/removing these? That is what triggers the Background notification from Apple...

Solution: developer, don't remove them.. there is no need to remove files added to these folders.. Its seems Apple is alerting people in the right way, but the implementation of is it allowing developers to annoy users. BTW: VPN apps do the same thing. ExpressVPN is annoying me equally as bad.

But it the way Apple allowed this add/remove to happen when there is no resewn to remove files. They introduced the issue. If users want to remove files they can manually browse these two folders and remove manually..

Adding existing vmdk to encrypted (VM) not possible.

When installing Windows 11 in Fusion, i choose to just "ecnrypt vm files" instead of virtual disk..

I then got corrupted windows after complete shut down and could not repair, (see my other post).

I then thought, in order to post log to Microsoft community, and i was doing troubleshooting in WinPE, i thought i could just :

- add a known good working .vmdk from backup, and boot to that.

- add the corrupted .vmdk as 2nd, so i can access and copy log..

so i removed 1st hd, added known good backup vmdk, then re-added the corrupted one as a 2nd

However when i tried to "Apply" I got "can't add encrypted hard drive" so effectively, i was stuck..

Which is false.... The vm files were only encrypted, not the vmdk disk... so why can't i add it? The known-good one is also not encypted. as i only ever prefer encrypting vm fils, not disk.. So i know that's not the issue.

ok.. well this is a clean install of TP,, not an upgrade of public VMWare fusion 13, because I clean installed of Mac partition, so i gathered rather than installing Fusion 13, which i'll never use now, i'll just install TP and be ok with that.. Using Fusion 13 key seems ok now..

No.. stable build on Intel Mac, The default resolution in Fusion 13 on M1 IS broke, and remains at 1024x768 regardless, but was fixed by this TP.

The resolution was used on Intel Macis the same as i use on M1 - 1680x1050, as i always have. but TP is the first time i noticed this 3360 by default. Just to correct your statement, i get the this resolution when the "use full Resolution for Retina display is "checked".. not "unchecked.."

If it was a custom resolution i only did on M1, then i'd accept this in VM, but its clearly not the case.

Yep, already seen that option.

I'm on a Macbook Air M1, using internal display. The resolution is up to 2560x1600, but i prefer 1680x1050. On stable build of Fusion, when you take it full screen (at least on previous architectures) the resolution by default was 2560x1600 (small icons) no custom scaling, or little

But this Tech Preview 2023 on M1 shoot up to 3360 at full screen which is way higher than I would have expected, givin' the limitations of what Apple has on the these displays. I'm not too fussed these resumptions are available, i'm just wondering why 3360x is the default after installing VMWare Tools with TP. I was expecting to see 2560 as the default option

I'm running the TP on my M1 Mac, and VMWare Tools install via wizard works much better now.. However, when taking VM to full screen on my 2560x1600 Retina display on laptop, set to 3360x2100 *by default* after installation..

Where as stable build it was the max resolution of the display ,, ... Is this correct now in tech preview? or is this 'work in progress' ?

Apple does the wholle 'magic' scaling, so i wonder weather TP is doing the same... It just seems a bit high for a 2560x1600 retina display,. *by default*

I could of sworn there was a Tech Preview for Windows 11-ARM on. Apple Silicon, then version 13 came out, with 'limited featured' and the unofficial guide..to install Tools via Powershell. Today, i see this:

https://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2023/07/vmware-fusion-2023-tech-preview.html

How can you go from a "public" version 13.0.2 upgraded version, "back" to a tech preview?? I don't remember any of this: 3D acceleration, drag and drop... suport in Windows 11-ARM

Must be new.. .They mention "Somona" which is still be beta.. I'm disappointed it looks like its only for Sonoma, and doesn't mention anything about MacOS Ventura.. Does this mean we must upgrade when it finally comes out of beta? I'm intrested in this, but i'm on Ventura M1.

A reboot of Mac fixed this "File Not Found" issue..Yes it is due to if you manually delete VM bundle but not from inventory and can cause issues after you remove "missing" from inventory, but a reboot fixes.

Actually it does...

There is no ARM license outside Microsoft.. I just bought a license key for x86 Intel, and it activated Windows 11 arm no problem on running Fusion 13.0.2 on my M1 Mac.

These days, it should ... No point in having seperate licenses anymore, when we have digital keys nowadays.

Memory Pressure, M1 and VM's

Watching Michael Roy on VMware podcast #588 (I think it was), how he was running 100 VM's, 8 Gig Ram (probbaly an over-simplification), but i added all that up and it came to 80Gig

No way you would be able to do this in 8Gig, even if say you had a 16GIg M1 like me i still doubt that, be possible.,. Now, Apple talks about the memory pressure being lower on the M1, which probably is the reason you can do more than on Intel under the same "conditions"... As i understand it, once a pile of memory is allocated to a VM, that's all it can play with right ? Any "memory pressure" footprint would have to be reversed for the host.... for 'other stuff', excluding the VM's. You may be able to run more of them, due to the memory fetching is part of the chip now, so everything "appears" more speedy, (doesn't have to go out externally to other chips anymore), but still the physical memory is 8 or 16GIG, that's still gonna limit VM's because regardless of footprint may be lower it would still be Physical memory limit of the Mac..

It this some sort of illusion here that Apple has made? The only way i know is to either increase the memory of the Mac, or reduce the memory in the VM's, as its still shared, M1 or not..

That's correct.

Downloading 13.0.2 clean from above worked. but still facing issue of not able to update from within fusion.

I might try a clean re-install of MacOS.
