I know this is an old thread, but was wondering if anyone has any luck with the Primavera P6 stand-alone installation (client & the Oracle Express DB)? The client sounds like it might be a little easier, but I have having major issues trying to vApp the database portion.

ZT

By default the VM's within VMWS aren't shared. You will need to power them down right click and select MANAGE - SHARE. Walk through the wizard which will move them into your shared folder (i.e. C:\Users\Public\Documents\Shared Virtual Machines). Once they are located there log back into WSX and they should be listed.

BC

Our current Lab image is 50GB (OS + Apps). We are trying to clean up / eliminate older versions of software that are currently installed. Ideally we are going to role out a VDI solution to one of our nine Labs that contains 70 workstation to see how things works before deciding one the reamaining eight.

Linked clones seem to make the most sense, so this leads me back to my question. If we consider 70 WS using a 'GOLD' image that could be around 40GB what would the storage footprint look like.

Thank you

BC

V2V conversion/migration

My question is how hard is it to use Converter to move the VM to a vSphere host (V2V migration).

In doing a little reading it sounds like performing a 'cold' migration. Ensure the VM is powered off then use Converter to move the files over. Wondering if anyone out there has performed this task and if they could shed a little light.

Thank you in advance

B48

Hello,

Just recently took a job at a University where I will be over seeing (supporting) all the student labs. Currently there are about 375+ thick clients that run Windows XP (stop lauging). The current process is a little archiac. They use BartPE which then boots into Symantec GHOST to re-image the workstations. Microsoft GPO is used to push software updates out at the moment.

I would like to put together a TCO to see if VMware View could be a solution, but I have been reading about the new release of 'Mirage' - which sounds very interesting as it takes into account both virtual and physical platforms.

Just want to see if there is anyone else there that run similar solutions and if it is worth travelling down the VDI path without of course breaking the bank or budget. Ideally if something can be successfully planned we could think about rolling it out to the school's admin staff - which would be the ideal goal.

Thanx

Bodhi
